WBHS Teachers Continuous Professional Development
On May 4, 2024, Wasambo Boys High School (WBHS) organized a Continuous Professional Development (CPD) session which aimed at enhancing teachers’ knowledge, skills, and professional capabilities. Experienced teachers from other schools were invited to share effective teaching strategies and methods for better teaching outcomes.
Emphasis was made on the crucial teaching roles and responsibilities, which include classroom management tasks such as, conflict resolution and positive reinforcement, lesson plans and records of work, and participation in extracurricular activities to promote student-teacher interactions. During the session, teachers also discussed the analysis of examination syllabuses, distinguishing between teaching and examination syllabuses, elaborating question trends, advocating for the use of past papers and exclusive paper revisions to better understand question formats.
Prior to wrapping up the session, teachers gathered in subject-specific groups to strategize on effective approaches for handling their respective subjects. Following these discussions, a representative from each group was tasked to present the group’s conclusions and strategies to the larger assembly.
In his closing remarks, the Head teacher of Wasambo Boys High School expressed gratitude to all the invited facilitators and attendees for dedicating their time to the CPD meeting. He emphasized the importance of such gatherings in ensuring professional excellence among teachers. Additionally, he encouraged the continuation of such events to support ongoing growth and development within the teaching community.
